1本の線に辿りつく過程
さて、1日遅れましたが、2月24日はメガドライブ版（MD版）ソーサリアンの発売日だったようです。大勢のファンの方によるメッセージでSNSが大変賑わっていました。当時、MD版のパッケージイラストを描かれた米田仁士先生が、その時のラフ絵をアップされていたのにも驚きました。スケッチに沢山の線が描かれたラフの状態から、1本の線に辿りつく過程は本当に感動的です。昔と違って今は線数の多いラフがとても好きで、美しいラインに到達するための「こだわりの1本線」が、イラストの成否を分かつとさえ思っています。
8から10通りの輪郭線
じつは、八刻堂で制作しているドット絵アクスタの輪郭線も、8から10通り描いた後、ふさわしい1本の輪郭線に決めることがあります。2-3通りのパターンで決まるキャラもいますが、非常に悩ましい形状の場合、丸一日悩み抜いたりすることもあります。特に斜めラインを多様しなければならないときは「角度」に細心の注意を払うようにしています。

The Process of Reaching a Single Line
Now then, a day late, but February 24th seems to have been the release date for the Mega Drive (MD) version of Sorsarian. Social media was buzzing with messages from many fans. I was also surprised to see Mr. Hitoshi Yoneda, who drew the package illustration for the MD version back then, posting his rough sketches. The process of arriving at a single line from a rough sketch covered in countless lines is truly moving, isn't it? Personally, I really love rough sketches with lots of lines. I even think that the “single line of obsession” needed to reach that beautiful line can make or break an illustration.
Drawing 8 to 10 different lines
Actually, when creating the outline lines for the dot art acrylic stands at Hakokudo, we sometimes draw 8 to 10 different lines before deciding on the one that fits best. For some characters, it's decided with just 2-3 patterns, but for very challenging shapes, we might agonize over it for an entire day. Especially when we need to use many diagonal lines, we pay meticulous attention to the “angle.”
